A Family Owned and Operated Business

O’Brien Systems was founded in 1979 by Charles O’Brien – Charlie O or Chaz to those who knew and loved him. Shortly after starting the business, Charles was in a major car accident which resulted in a broken tibia, fibula, knee, and ankle in his right leg. He was hospitalized for three months and was unable to return to his office in Suburban Station for over a year. Although the odds were stacked against him, he was determined to succeed, and the original work-from-home business was born. Both from the hospital and his home, Charlie kept in touch with clients and sent out proposals from his trusted Royal typewriter. His son, Kevin, would often act as courier and hand deliver said proposals after his classes ended at Villanova during his junior and senior years.

Fast forward to 1981, Kevin graduated from Villanova University with a degree in finance and joined his father in the world of shelving and storage sales. In 1985, Charles’ youngest son Mike graduated from Villanova and joined O’Brien Systems. Years later, oldest son Dennis left the world of banking to join his brothers in the family business. The phenomenal group of decade-long employees including Drew Murray, Sharon Spitko and Jim Curcio – who have turned into family – all play a major role in the overall success of the business. Most recently, Charlie’s granddaughter and Kevin’s daughter, Jess, has joined the team.

At its core, O’Brien Systems is a strong combination of family values, determination and a great deal of long, hard hours in the office and in the field. Throughout the past 40 years, the objective has always been the same – to provide our clients with the highest quality of service and products to help your business succeed.

Meet our Team

KEVIN O'BRIEN

President

Kevin O’Brien is the president of O’Brien Systems and has over 40 years of experience designing storage and casework solutions across a wide range of industries and institutions. Kevin prides himself on his ability to work collaboratively with design professionals and clients to achieve the most cost effective, elegant solution to their requirement. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in finance from Villanova University. Kevin served as a board member from 2004-2010 and president from 2010-2012 of the Automated Solutions Association, as well as multiple Manufacturer Dealer Advisory Boards.

MICHAEL O'BRIEN

Vice President

Mike O’Brien is the vice president of O’Brien Systems and has over 30 years of experience in the design, planning and implementation of over 3,000 high-density storage systems for customers in a wide range of industries including commercial, government and public safety, museum, pharmaceutical, education and data center projects. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University in business management and accounting in 1986.

DENNIS O'BRIEN

Vice President

Dennis O’Brien has over 40 years of experience working in accounting and finance. He has worked in banking at Fidelity Bank, bank software at Sanchez Computer and accounting and finance at O’Brien Systems. He received an undergraduate degree in Finance from Villanova University and an MBA from Drexel University in finance. He is currently a vice president at O’Brien Systems. Dennis is a member of the Spring Mill Planning Committee.

Drew Murray

Regional Sales Manager

Drew Murray has over 25 years of experience in the design, supply and installation of high-density storage systems and casework solutions. He is a regional sales manager. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Dickinson College in 1994 and his MBA from Temple University in 2002. Drew is a native of the Philadelphia area and currently resides with his wife and two daughters in Center City. He is Chairman of the Philadelphia Crosstown Coalition and President of the Friends of Coxe Park. He also serves on the boards/councils of Center City District, Logan Square Neighborhood Association and the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul.

Sharon Spitko

Office and Operations Manager

Sharon Spitko is the office and operations manager and began her career at O’Brien Systems over 20 years ago. She joined the team with a background in accounting and is responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, project management and office management. She has been a notary public for over 16 years and is a member of the NNA. Sharon is an avid outdoorsman and enjoys hunting and gold panning. She has spent over 12 years raising money and awareness for lung cancer research and is a board member of the Philadelphia Free to Breathe Walk/Run. She is also a proud member and supporter of the Conshohocken VFW.

Jim Curcio

Service Manager

Jim Curcio is the service manager at O’Brien Systems and has been working in the service department for over 20 years. He specializes in preventative maintenance and post-installation support of storage and casework systems. He also has an auto mechanical and construction background. Jim is a Philadelphia native, a graduate of South Philadelphia High School and enjoys volunteering at the USO, Chester County Adaptive Sports and Eldernet in Merion Township.

Jess Viola

Marketing Specialist and Project Manager

Jess Viola is a marketing specialist and project manager at O’Brien Systems. She is responsible for website and social media management as well as project management. She has a background in human resources and healthcare marketing. Jess enjoys spending time with her family, especially down the shore and on the beach.
